Week 14

This week I continued my collaboration with the newest member of our SPECC research (Phase II), Ida Ferdman. Ida agreed to present her new electronic pedagogy at a joint WAC (Writing Across the Curriculum) and English Collaborative (high school outreach) workshop. The workshop was attended by faculty from several disciplines and by English instructors from local feeder high schools. Ida’s presentation “wowed” the audience, and her introductory remarks suggest the transformative potential of this pedagogy for students and faculty alike. Click on the link below to hear her opening comments.

After the workshop, I spoke with other attendees about our recent research in electronic pedagogy and gave them the link to our research website. A few of the high school instructors had attended one of my technology workshops several years ago and were interested in renewing our collaboration. I promised them a new workshop in the spring under the auspices of our SPECC grant.

The other “new” member of our SPECC research (Phase II) is Monette Tiernan, who also happens to be the director of Glendale College’s WAC program. I have collaborated with Monette over several years on the electronic pedagogy, and she is an avid proponent. I am confident that her role as director of WAC will facilitate a campus-wide dialogue about our pedagogical research.
