Notes/English 189

Nov. 7-11

Unfortunately, this was a very short week—only one day of class. We are finishing up Run-On sentences (after having spent 2 weeks on them). I’m not sure that is enough time, either. I didn’t want to introduce a new topic with only one day of class, so I thought I’d give students some time to work on quizzes and make corrections on previous essays.

Monday October 7th

Today we reviewed the ways to correct run-on sentences and I had the students edit a handout that I’d typed up. For the most part, students seem to “get it,” though the real test, of course, will be in the next paragraphs. I opened up the final set of run-on sentence quizzes and reminded them that because they would not have class for the rest of the week, this would be an excellent opportunity to really focus on finishing the quizzes and to make corrections on their midterms.
