Meeting with students Susan and Diana

Lab Activities:  Students worked on a series of quizzes on verbs.  We worked together 50 minutes.  Diana completed all but one quiz on verbs, but Susan, who works more deliberately, did only the action verb quizzes and a couple on the helping verbs.

Both did well on their quizzes, though they both missed some due to slight misspellings of the word, and Diana missed a couple on a “challenging” test (e.g. a nurse gave a shot, and she marked shot as the verb—she fell into the trap).

We did view some of the slides from the class lecture, drilling them a bit to see if they could pick out the prepositional phrases and subjects.  Diana said the slides were helpful, and Susan said they were, of course, helpful, but that she would need more study time with them as there was a lot to remember.

I did feel some discomfort in going through the slides with them and asking them to review information from class only because I had trouble drawing the line between being a mere observer and tutoring, since I wanted to give them some feedback.  The session is recorded on the tape recorder.
