Lesson Twenty-Three:
Commonly Misspelled Words 2
This is the second and last spelling lesson of the semester; it includes five commonly misspelled pairs or groups of words: then/than; past/passed; its/it’s; quit/quite/quiet; lose/loose.
Once again, I try to use the dynamic aspect of the slideshow to “imprint” an awareness on the students’ minds about the look, relationship, meanings, and correct spellings of these words. Please look for specific ways that we could enhance individual slides to make this imprinting opportunity more powerful.
As part of their homework assignments, students will have two more quizzes on fragments, this time on Missing Subject Fragments. Since this sequence of quizzes is not optimally refined, I am curious to know about the students’ responses and successes or difficulties. Please try to think of creative questions or approaches to elicit substantive responses from your student researchers.
