Class Overview:

The first day of class consisted of a class overview. Mr. J. began the class with a Powerpoint presentation in which he introduced students to what they can expect from the class. Mr. J. passed out a syllabus and asked students to write a 30 minute diagnostic essay in which they evaluate themselves as students.

 

Commendations:

The Powerpoint slideshow was colorful, funny, and imaginative. The central metaphor in the presentation was one of slaying the various writing/essay beasts. Students appeared engaged with the material and certainly far more engaged than they might have been during a traditional lecture/speech.
